Actuary – Lumera NorwayWhy did you want to join Lumera?
I was looking for relevant work after I had finished my master’s degree in data analysis at the University of Oslo. Several of my fellow students who were already employed at Lumera spoke highly of the organization, describing it as an excellent place to start a career as an Actuary. They emphasized the presence of knowledgeable and supportive colleagues, as well as the abundance of learning and developmental opportunities.
What is your workday like at Lumera?
My workday starts, after delivering my kids to kindergarten, with a 30 minutes bike ride to the office which is at the centrum of Oslo right next to the City Hall. A lot of my work revolves around pension calculation, which means working with our own software and Excel to calculate, control and test that everything works as it should. In addition, we do quite a bit of consulting and counselling, meaning frequent email correspondence and Teams meetings. The atmosphere at the office is very social and open. We have regular coffee breaks by the coffee machine and excellent lunch at our canteen.
What is the most developmental aspect of your job?
There is always something to learn. For example, gaining a better understanding of pension and life insurance and simplifying the communication of complex technical matters. Or improving my programming skills and contributing to the development of our own software.
How would you describe Lumera as a workplace in just a few words?
Social, fun and challenging.
What do you do when you are not working at Lumera?
I spend most of my time taking care of my kids, aged 1 and 3. This feels often like a full-time job. However, on occasion, I'm fortunate to have the opportunity to enjoy a round of golf or do some jogging. We do quite a lot of different family activities, such as attending football matches at Nadderud Stadium to support our team, Stabæk, or embarking on hikes and orienteering adventures in the nearby forests and hills.
