Jaco Stevens
HR Business Partner – Lumera Netherlands"What motivates me most is helping people and teams perform at their best. When employees grow, the organization grows with them."
As an HR Business Partner at Lumera Netherlands, what does your typical workday look like?
No two days are exactly the same, which is something I really enjoy about my role. I typically start my day by reviewing my agenda and checking in on ongoing HR topics. My work involves a mix of strategic and operational activities, ranging from supporting managers with team development and organizational changes to recruitment, onboarding, employee development, and employment conditions.
I work closely with colleagues across the business and act as a partner for both employees and management. Throughout the week I have conversations with candidates, managers, employees, external partners, and our leadership team. I regularly work from our Utrecht office, where collaboration and informal interactions with colleagues are just as valuable as the scheduled meetings. Our monthly employee days are a great opportunity to connect with everyone across the organization.
What do you find most beneficial for your professional growth in this role?
The biggest opportunity for growth comes from the wide variety of topics I am involved in. As an HR Business Partner, I work at the intersection of people, organization, and business strategy. This means I continuously develop skills in communication, leadership coaching, organizational development, and change management.
I especially enjoy helping both individuals and teams grow. Whether it's supporting a manager, attracting new talent, improving processes, or contributing to organizational transformation, every challenge brings a new opportunity to learn and create impact.
How would you describe Lumera as a workplace in just a few words?
Entrepreneurial, collaborative, and people-focused.
Lumera offers a great deal of freedom and responsibility, allowing employees to take ownership of their work and ideas. At the same time, colleagues are approachable and always willing to help each other. Despite our hybrid way of working, there is a strong sense of teamwork and connection. People genuinely care about the success of the company and the wellbeing of their colleagues.
What do you do when you are not working at Lumera?
Living close to Kinderdijk, I enjoy going for walks and spending time outdoors to recharge. I'm passionate about both football and cycling, whether that's actively participating or following events as a fan. I am also involved in the local football club, where I coach youth teams and enjoy contributing to the community.
Most importantly, I am a proud father of three children. Spending quality time with my family is what I value most outside of work. Whether it's a day out together, watching sports, or simply relaxing at home, family time helps me maintain a healthy balance between work and personal life.
What advice would you give a future team member?
Be curious, take initiative, and don't be afraid to ask questions.
At Lumera, people who actively contribute ideas and take ownership of their development tend to thrive. There are many opportunities to learn, collaborate, and make a real impact on the organization. If you're open to continuous learning, willing to support your colleagues, and eager to grow both professionally and personally, you'll quickly feel at home here.
