Product Specialist - Modelleur – Lumera NetherlandsWhat is your workday at Lumera like?
At Lumera Netherlands, I work in a customer team of around 5 to 10 product specialists. Most of my time is spent supporting a pension administrator and its pension fund clients. Recently, a large part of our work has focused on the transition to the new Dutch pension system (WTP), which brings many interesting challenges and opportunities.
I mainly work independently and often from home. To clear my mind, I usually take a short walk during lunch. Every week we have a team meeting, and I try to work from our Utrecht office on Thursdays to connect with colleagues. With the recent office expansion and renovation, it has become an even nicer place to work.
What do you find most beneficial for your professional growth in this role?
Lumera is my first employer in the insurtech sector, but I found my place quickly. Much of my work feels like solving complex puzzles: analysing situations, finding logical connections and determining the best solution.
Curiosity is a great asset in this role. The pension industry is constantly evolving, particularly with the ongoing WTP transition, so there is always something new to learn. Accuracy and attention to detail are equally important and help deliver high-quality solutions for our clients.
How would you describe the culture at Lumera?
Even though I often work independently, I never feel like I am working alone. Colleagues are always willing to share their knowledge and support each other, and I enjoy contributing to that culture myself.
There can be pressure at times due to project deadlines and the pension transition, but people genuinely look out for one another. There is a lot of freedom and autonomy in how you organise your work, and the atmosphere is informal and approachable. As Lumera continues to grow, the organisation is also becoming increasingly diverse.
What do you do when you are not working at Lumera?
I enjoy travelling and particularly escaping to warmer destinations during the winter months. I also enjoy good food, especially fast food and desserts, although I occasionally balance that out with a bike ride.
I like reading to stay informed about what is happening in the world and enjoy learning languages. At the moment, I am working on improving my Spanish.
What advice would you give a future team member?
Be patient and take the time to learn both the system and the business domain. Pension administration can be complex, and nobody expects you to know everything from day one.
Don't be afraid to ask questions and involve colleagues when working on new configurations or challenges. We work quite independently, but there is always someone willing to help. Finally, stay curious and be open to new technologies, including AI, as they offer exciting opportunities to work smarter and continue learning.
