Mikael André
Lead System Developer – Lumera SwedenWhy did you want to join Lumera?
Above all, I chose Lumera based on the impression I got of the working climate and the sense of it being a company that cares about its staff. As a graduate of the Royal Institute of Technology, I was made aware through the challenging recruitment process that I would be encountering highly qualified colleagues and have the opportunity to develop and receive support in the company for many years to come. As early as my first day I realized that I made the right choice!
What’s the best thing about working at Lumera?
The unpretentious working climate, expertise and willingness to help each other out, the non-hierarchical organization, the good coffee. The list of reasons to recommend Lumera is long, but the main reason is probably that it always feels fun to go to work.
What is your work day like at Lumera?
I’ll bet that most people who answer this question start by saying how they start the day with a cup of coffee. But the thing is, that’s exactly what I do! Aside from that, my work days are filled by a variety of tasks. In addition to my job as a system developer, I collaborate with my team on the responsibility of onboarding new developers. This means that I often intersperse my time coding with efforts to give new employees a basic understanding of the complex system we are developing. And, we are constantly working to improve this process. In my opinion, an effective and well thought-out induction helps developers reach a level of security so that they can start contributing to the business more quickly. Not only is this important to the company, but I also believe it’s vital for work satisfaction, this feeling of making a difference and creating something that will benefit others.
What is the most developmental aspect of your job?
That’s a hard question! I am constantly faced with new challenges, from solving complex problems and writing stable, secure code, to taking on new areas of development and constantly gaining a deeper, broader understanding of the systems we develop.
